As Jake lay still, silent in his bed, a tremendous darkness
swept over him. His mind reeling from what he just
experienced or thought he experienced. Trying to ignore
the obvious pain he felt and passing it of as anxiety
from his all too real nightmare, he rolled over to caress
his wife's face. reaching out the back of his hand to
gently touch he recoiled involuntarily at the
icy feel of her cold moist skin. Jake stood up on the bed
almost too close to the ceiling fan, pulled the chain on
the light and gazed in total horror at what he ultimately
saw. Sam's face was drawn and gaunt, lifeless. In his
dream Jake knew he had a recollection of the events of the
night before but now he didn't remember what took place.
As a matter of fact he couldn't remember much of the last
couple of days. Jake now overwhelmed with emotion dropped
to his knees at Sam's side and picked her up into his arms
and buried his head into her chest and sobbed, her cold
dead skin chilling him to his core as he let out a primal
scream.

About three hours later Jake had her cleaned and in new
clothes. "At least now you look like you don't look
as bad as you are," Jake thought. Out of the corner of
his eye a flashing red light caught his attention, it was
his answering machine. Still shaken and absolutely aware
of his own humanity, he couldn't believe he had missed
thirty-nine messages. He check that machine everyday, and
the phone always wakes him up. "Maybe the ringer is turned
off," he thought. It was not. At least it didn't appear to
be. "I'll call from my cell phone just to be sure It's not
broken," Thought Jake as he turned on his cell phone. It
came to life with it's familiar warble and beep. "forty-five
missed calls?!" All at once Jake began to realize he didn't
just lose a couple of days, maybe it's been a couple of weeks.
"But how," he thought pressing the play button on his
answering machine, afraid of what he would hear.

After listening to all thirty-nine messages Jake sat in
disbelief. He thought it was Thursday July the nineteenth when
in fact it was Tuesday August the twenty-first. Thirty-three days,
THIRTY-THREE DAYS!! Jake stood still as the room seemed to
begin spinning around him. At exactly the same time he
realized he was about to pass out he did, his large six foot
seven frame hit the ground with a thud.

Groggily Jake came to. Looking around he realized he was
sitting on the floor in the living room holding Sam's head
in his hands, her eyes open, she almost looked alive.
"Jake," she whispered. Jake jumped up so fast he let her head
fall to the ground. "Ouch!" Sam managed and pushed herself
up in a sitting position. "Jake," she said "are you ok? One
minute we were talking and the next you had either passed out
or fallen asleep. I guess that bump on your head is worse
than we thought. Jake stood against the wall eyes wide and
mouth open. "But your dead!" he shouted. "Obviously not,"
said Sam as her mouth moved into a hesitant half smile.
"What day is it, Quick! What day is it?!" asked Jake.
"Uhh, Wed... no Thursday," answered Sam still wearing a
very puzzled look.
"What day, What month?" demanded Jake, visibly shaken and now
scaring Sam.
"Thursday the nineteenth, July. Thursday July nineteenth.
How do you not know that, mister boarder line OCD, did the
batteries in your palm pilot die?"
Immediately Jakes mouth started to water and he felt himself
go flush. All at once Jake doubled over and heaved from his
gut not producing much if anything but an awful sound.
"I'm sorry Sam I'm having a hard time finding humor in this
situation. I think I'm loosing my mind." Jake replied
as he slid down the wall until he was sitting down on the floor.

"Sam, what were you going to tell me, you know before I had my
little episode?" Sam crawled over to Jake and placed a kiss on
his cheek, sitting back she looked long into his eyes and could
see confusion and fear, two things she has never seen in those
strong eyes before. Leaning forward Sam spoke softly, "I am
sorry for joking earlier I didn't realize how poorly you were
feeling, and don't worry about what I said before you passed
out, well have plenty of time to talk about that later"
"Well at least you seem to be doing better," said Jake.
"I'm just exhausted, and of course we haven't eaten in the last
twenty four hours. We'll both feel better if we get something
to eat." replied Sam.

The ringing phone startled them both...
Ok, here's part two. I am not sure when I'll get part three out. I hope like this as much as the first one...
